Pre-final KF3: De Vries – Sainz

De_Vries_préfinale.jpg

It was not a true duel between Nyck De Vries and Carlos Sainz, since the Dutchman took the advantage over the Spaniard on the 1st lap. The gap remained thin during three quarters of the race and Nyck won finally 3.8s ahead of Carlos. It looked like he slowed on the last lap to finish 3rd and be rather better placed for the final, but it was in vain. The 1st lap eliminated Gerard Barrabeig and Mathieu Jaminet at the bottom of the circuit after quite a start from the top drivers. Raffaele Marciello quickly took 3rd place, successively overcoming Guilherme Silva and Gustavo Menezes.

The race was relatively calm at the front but restless in the 2 parts of the chasing pack. After a superb start, Pierre Gasly at first moved up to 14th position, then his machine forced him to let everyone past to finish 25th. The race was more than satisfactory for Rémy Deguffroy, who started from 20th and finished 12th, driving consistently. Colomé was the last qualifier but brilliantly came through to 15th. King clashed with Elkerbout and finished 28th and last on the track.

Did Carlos Sainz run his race to save his tyres? Does Nyck de Vries have more in reserve? Answers to follow from 15:30 on the dot.
