2005 World Formula A Champion and British Formula 3 International star, Oliver Oakes knows what it takes to win at Jesolo – one of the world’s greatest and most demanding kart tracks. Here he gives his unique insight into the legendary circuit that has been graced by the likes of Senna, Hamilton, and of course, Birel’s own 6-time World Champion, Mike Wilson.

 

jesolo.jpg«So guys, welcome to real karting. If you think that PF gets grippy in summer, Jesolo is really going to be a shock to the system!

 

I will never forget driving here when I was just 13 and watching – as the weekend went on – the giant ‘cow pats’ of rubber forming on the circuit. Session by session the steering became heavier, and in almost every other lap you’d see someone getting up on two wheels or ‘wong’ off the circuit.

Let’s get this straight. Jesolo is tough. It’s hot, has twelve demanding corners and to top it off, it’s next to the beach. When you’re in the last few laps of a session with your forearms screaming, I can guarantee you’ll want to pull in early and take a break!

Don’t let that put you off because I have no doubt that Jesolo will be a fantastic, memorable experience for you all. But my one piece of advice beforehand is, hit the gym before you get there. Trust me – you’ll thank me when your rivals are dead after the first day’s testing!
