Like every year the CIK-FIA is getting ready for its busiest weekend of the season in mid-July with the regional Qualifications to the European Championships of the KF2 and KF3 categories. These Qualifications are indeed specific in that they are held on the same weekend, on 10-13 July 2008, at three different circuits as Europe has been divided into three zones for the occasion. They will serve to designate the 144 Drivers (72 per category, in proportion to the entries in each region) who will compete in the European Championships Finals.

Drivers of the so-called “Northern” Region, originating from the Scandinavian, Baltic and Benelux countries, as well as from Russia, will perform on the circuit of Göteborg (Sweden), which has held CIK-FIA Championship, Cup and Trophy events time and again.

British, Irish, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Andorran and Swiss Drivers from the so-called “Western” Region will get together in Spain on the new circuit of «La Ciudad del Motor de Aragon» at Alcaniz. With its ultra-modern infrastructures, its huge asphalted paddock and its 1,700-metre course, the Alcaniz complex could almost be compared to a miniature Formula 1 circuit!

German, Italian and Eastern European Drivers who compose the so-called “Central” Region will compete at Sant’Egidio alla Vibrata, in Italy, on a circuit which like Göteborg has already hosted many CIK-FIA events, including a World Championship of the gearbox karts category in 1993.

The CIK-FIA has recorded no fewer than 420 entries for these regional Qualifications to the CIK-FIA European KF2 and KF3 Championships, which constitutes an increase of over 10% in comparison with the number of entries reached twelve months ago and shows the success of the change of technical regulations introduced at the beginning of 2007 with «KF» engines.

Gathered for these regional selections, KF2 and KF3 Drivers will however compete in separate Finals: the European title of the KF2 category will be awarded on 3 August 2008 at Braga (Portugal), whereas KF3 Juniors will fight it out for their own European title on 7 September 2008 at Varennes s/Allier (France).

The three events have a common timetable, with qualifying practice scheduled for Friday afternoon and most of the qualifying heats for Saturday, while Sunday will be dedicated to the last heats and to the Races of the final phase (two per category).
