KZ2: Semi-final 1, CRG vs CRG

A superb KZ2  Semi-final began the afternoon at Varennes. It began with the shock return to the pits and subsequent retirement of Thomas Mich before the start. Thomas is likely to be the only driver not qualified for the finals, with all the consequences that entails for the championship.

Jonathan Thonon took the lead pf the race, as his team-mate Arnaud Kozlinski followed in his shadow.  Enzo Zefirini ran in third briefly before giving way to an incisive Anthony Abbasse. Matias Laine also took Zefirini on the next lap. The two CRG drivers pulled awy from Abbasse, himself a long way from the chasing pack. Christophe Benoit was in sixth ahead of Cedric Goudant, Brice De Gaye and Benjamin Bailly.

 

On lap six, Kozlinski outbraked Thonon at the first hairpin. Thonon was reenergized, visibly faster than Kozlinski, but was unable to find a gap until two laps from the end. Their fight allowed Abbasse  to catch them back up and start to attack. On the last lap, Kozlinski found a way by at then the Belgian took back the lead at the next hairpin and crossed the line as the winner.

 

Abbasse was third, Laine fourth, Zefirini fifth, Benoit sixth, Goudant seventh, De Gaye eighth and Bailly ninth.
