Superb final for Lacaze

Charles Lacaze won the KF2 final, but it was a trio, and then a quartet, that battled throughout the superb race. Sebastien Bailly couldn’t start on the rolling up lap and unfortunately couldn’t get back to his place in time. Worse still he couldn’t avoid another driver stuck across the track and had to retire…

Robin Frijns was very slightly in front, followed by Stoffels Van Doorne who then went wide at the hairpin and lost a lot of places. Charles Lacaze didn’t have to do much to move into second position. The surprising Paul-Loup Chatin moved up into the top three, hot on the heels of Lacaze. Then it was William Benedetti, Olivier Tilkin and Michael Albert. Frijns, Lacaze and Chatin moved away from their opponents, pulling out a small gap between them.

Loic Reguillon in seventh, waited for his moment, or rather that of his chassis. Towards lap five, he started to push hard and move closer to the leaders. Benedetti lost some ground and then the gaps between the top three started to close. On the ninth lap, Lacaze, always followed by Chatin, started to seriously threaten Frijns and overtook soon afterwards. Frijns replied and took the position back briefly, but Lacaze was too strong. Two laps later, the Belgian GKS driver took the lead back again, but this time he was retaken by both French drivers.

Podium-KF2.jpgWhile this confrontation was going on at the head of the field, an extremely quick Reguillon joined the leading trio and started to join in the fight. On lap 15, Benedetti was able to take advantage of Albert, while Reguillon passed Frijns and attacked Chatin before moving into Lacaze’s slipstream. Slightly destabilised, Chatin let Frijns take him for third place. Just three laps were left.

Lacaze and Reguillon were stuck together and took defensive racing lines. On the last lap, Chatin, who was faster, got rid of Frijns and took third position. Lacaze won ahead of Reguillon.
