Convers cannot take advantage of his victory

Starting on pole, Armand Convers won the first qualifying heat in KF1, and long-time second placed Jean-Philippe Guignet broke down on lap eight so Yannick De Brabander took second position ahead of Matias Laine.

But the most important event was the start, which took place under the new procedure put in place by the CIK. At the first mark, Convers on pole was shown at 30km/h, just below the 40km/h regulation. Unfortunately he went over the line at 59km/h, which was too much for the sporting commissioners who inflicted a 10-second penalty. Guignet suffered the same fate, but it was unimportant as he didn’t finish the race.

depart-KF1-02.jpgThe paddock is agitated in the light of this new rule which seems very difficult to comply with. Convers complained of being pushed when following the directions to retain a sensible speed. In addition, a fairly serious crash still took out a dozen karts at the first corner.

Convers was 12th and De Brabander now benefits from first position.
