Monte-Carlo 6-hour race : 2/3

2_0774.jpg Two-thirds of the way through the AAD endurance race it is starting to look very much like Londonliving.com’s year although nothing has been decided yet. The leading kart has a 36-second lead over the second-placed one, which is less than a lap. Everything will be decided in the morning, during a 3rd 2-hour stint which promises to be hotly-contested. Taking advantage of its rival’s problems, Capocaccia-ACM pulled back its deficit from heat 1 and moved into the coveted 2nd spot that means the team can dream of victory tomorrow. Dewhurst Racing was the team that lost its place, dropping right back down to 19th position. Things were even worse for Expressions Parfumées, which plummeted to 31st place right at the back of the race, after a potent mixture of mechanical problems and race incidents put paid to its hopes. It has to be said that the Monaco Kart Cup is full of traps. Uneven grip, bumps, no track run-off possible, frantic braking, blind corners like the infamous Rascasse bend, all make this a difficult race for everyone. At this point in the proceedings there is already an 80-lap gap between the leader and the back marker, which gives some idea of the overtaking that goes on out on the 1075-metre track on what is undeniably the world’s foremost road race. This is a drivers’ race, par excellence. That said, tonight’s standings don’t necessarily say it all and tomorrow it might all change. So much can still happen in this race!
