Although very cloudy, the weather forecast for Wackersdorf didn’t include rain for the Final of the CIK-FIA KZ2 International Super Cup. The public has massed in numbers on the platform, the terrace with the approaches to the circuit now more accessible. Before the start, predictions are very difficult for an open competition with several favourites. Under the 34 helmets of the finalists, the tension is at its height.

Benjamin Persson (CRG / TM) was quickest to attack Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART / TM) and Marco Zanchetta (Maranello / TM). Alex Irlando (Sodi / TM) moved up to 4th in front of Daniel Bray (GP Racing / TM), Daniel Stell (Mach 1 / TM) and Francesco Celenta (Praga / TM). Longhi dropped to 4th, then Zanchetta fell to 9th in the fight while Irlando took 2nd place. Very fast, Persson had already distanced his rivals by more than a second and a half. Irlando started a series of fastest laps from the fifth lap, followed by Longhi and Bray. Celenta passed Stell for 5th place.

Halfway through the 26 laps, the gap between the top two dropped to 1.1 ” in Persson’s favour and Longhi accelerated behind Irlando. The latter was six tenths closer on the next lap, the Swede having lost a little time. The gap fell to three tenths on lap 16. Irlando’s first attempt to pass did not succeed and Longhi also joined them. Irlando missed a second braking opportunity on lap 22. Longhi was then more threatening for 2nd place.

When the race looked like it was decided, Irlando boldly passed on the last lap at the inside of the big right a few metres from the finish and won a magnificent victory against Persson, who was annoyed, and Longhi. Celenta took 4th place by over 3”, Zanchetta 5th, Van Leeuwen 6th, Stell 7th and Gonzales 8th. Hubert Petit (Sodi / TM) moved up nine places to finish 12th.
