A single driver, Francesco Celenta (Praga / TM), took the risk of going out on slicks in the first timed session of the European KZ2 Championship at Le Mans. At the top of the table, Pierre Loubère (Zanardi / Parilla) was ahead of Rokas Bacisuka (Sodi / TM), followed by Andrea Dahlberg (Birel ART / TM) and Emil Skäras (Tony Kart / Vortex). Bacisuka then led ahead of Alexander Schmitz (CRG / Vortex) and Leon Köhler (Tony Kart / Vortex). Celenta’s bet paid off from the fifth lap. Even though Baciuska and Loubère tried to resist, Celenta flew inexorably and finished with a time of 59”865, 1.4” faster than Loubere, 2nd ahead of Köhler and Baciuska. Hubert Petit (Sodi / TM) had retired before the end.

All the drivers in the second session were logically on slicks. Nicolas Picot (Tony Kart / Vortex), followed by Paul Fontaine (Sodi / TM) took the lead with a significant time under 59”. Paolo Ippolito (Lenzo / LKE) improved, Fontaine reacted admirably and finished on provisional pole with a time of 58”037, two tenths ahead of Ippolito, then Dylan Davies (DR / Modena), Maxime Sabin in an excellent 4th ahead of Lorenzo Giannoni. Nicolas Gonzales (Maranello / TM) took 8th position with Adrien Renaudin (Sodi / TM) 9th, Picot 11th and Thomas Landais (Tony Kart / Vortex) 12th.

Performance increased even more during the 3rd and final session. Martijn Van Leeuwen (Energy / TM) quickly fell below 56”, before the time dropped to under 55” and Alessandro Pelizzari (CKR / TM) finished in pole position with his time of 54” 281. Max Tubben (CRG / TM) took 2nd place in the final seconds, followed by Matteo Vigano (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Maximilian Paul (DR / Modena) who took the lead over Iacovacci in 5th, Van Leeuwen 6th, Alex Irlando (Sodi / TM) 7th and Charles Fiault (Sodi / TM) 8th. Tom Leuillet (Sodi / TM) had given up after three laps.

Given the gap between the sessions, the 101% rule was applied and Fontaine was 2nd behind poleman Pelizzari, followed in 3rd place by Celenta. Loubère was ranked 6th, Vigano 7th, Köhler 9th, Sabin 11th ahead of Bacisuka, Van Leeuwen 16th ahead of Paul Evrard, Alessio Piccini 18th ahead of Irlando, Fiault 22nd ahead of Gonzales and Schmitz, Renaudin 26th, Picot 28th ahead of Rasmussen, and Thomas Landais 32nd.
