Under the pressure of the Liberty Media group which has just taken over the reins of Formula 1 with FIA approval, the whole of motor sport will be overhauled. Everyone was expecting repercussions, but not as quickly. The slogan is spreading like wildfire: “Make Entertainment Great Again!”

The CIK-FIA was ordered to react as quickly as possible, otherwise it would be entirely relocated to Dublin and be financed in £ (pounds sterling) instead of Swiss francs. From the first event of the 2017 European Championships, like all the other disciplines F2, F3 and F4, the drivers will have to make a pit stop during the races (Prefinals and Finals) and change tyres between the medium “Prime” and hard “Option” rubber.

But that’s not all. Pirelli, which had only partially succeeded in hiding its game until then, has become the sole official supplier of tyres for all of the international kart categories OK, OK-Junior, Academy, KZ and KZ2 until 2020. In order to distinguish between tyres they will adopt colour markings as in F1: white for the mediums and orange for the hard ones. The wet tyres will have a beautiful colour of “Purple Rain”. The Italian manufacturer has already made up the stocks needed for the first part of the season.

This new regulation, which will give an additional attraction to kart racing, will also benefit from better media outcomes through DirecTV Sports Networks, a subsidiary of Liberty Media Corporation linked to the US communications operator AT&T.
