A triple World Champion, Marco Ardigo is considered to be one of the best current professional drivers with his race-winning qualities, and also his talents in fine tuning. He can be considered an important element of the technical and sporting success of the prestigious Tony Kart. He earned his fifth title of European Champion this year by winning the KZ category over three Competitions with the last at Genk (BEL).

What was the KZ competition like this year?
– The KZ races are always very tight between the big teams and the best drivers in the world. The competition was even harder this season. This is what creates the interest and beauty of this category. All of the engine manufacturers have worked well for the new homologation, which came into force on 1st January. I must say that the new Vortex RKZ proved particularly effective against very tough opposition.

How did 2016 European Championship go?
– We met various conditions and had to adapt to very different circuits, in particular as regards to the development of the chassis and management of tyres. At Essay (FRA) to start with, it was cold and wet on a twisty and abrasive track. We won the Prefinal and the Final, which is always important for a good start to the Championship. Zuera (ESP) was the opposite with its very fast track in the sun. Our competitors responded and I had to settle for 3rd position. We prepared well for the last round at Genk (BEL), I took a second victory and therefore ensured the title.

What about the tyres?
– Drivers often appreciate softer tyres that provide more grip, but we must also take account of tyre management throughout the meeting, which is not always obvious. Anyway, we have to adapt, with driving as well as set-up. What matters most to me is the consistency of performance, reliability and consistency of all tyres supplied by a manufacturer.

At 33, how do you see the rest of your career?
– I am very pleased to be working with Tony Kart. Physically, the repeated test sessions aren’t easy and I participate in many international races. I train assiduously to always be in shape. I am fortunate to live my passion in a great team and at this time I don’t intend to do anything else!
