The CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy is entering its 8th season. This one-of-a-kind competition pits the world’s best hopefuls on equal terms to reveal the greatest talents. After the success of the 2016 edition, some new features are on the programme for 2017.

2016 saw renewed interest in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy due to the advent of the new OK-Junior type engines and the arrival of OTK Kart Group as a supplier of the Exprit chassis and of Vortex engines. Attractive prizes also rewarded the best. The 2017 season will continue on this positive dynamic although with some small changes.

Due to the evolution of the age groups set up by the CIK-FIA from 1st January 2017, Drivers in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy must be between 12 and 14 years of age during the year. They will still compete at the wheel of randomly drawn one-make karts, with Exprit chassis and a Vortex DDJ engine, but following the FIA ??tender, the tyres will be Bridgestone “Option”. Thanks to the relegation of the financial component to the background, the formula aims to reveal the most promising talents of the younger generation.

The 2017 season of the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy revolves around three Competitions, integrated into the most prestigious Karting Championships. The Trophy will start in Belgium, at Genk, from 11th to 14th May, with a day of testing on Thursday 11th. It will then be the turn of Finland to host, from 21st to 23rd July, the second Competition on the circuit of Alahärmä, while the conclusion will take place from 8th to 10th September in Germany at Wackersdorf during the CIK-FIA World KZ Championship.

The aim of encouraging the pursuit of an international career of the best hopes of karting remains unchanged. The winner will be invited to participate free of charge in the CIK-FIA Junior World Championship held at PF Int’l in September 2017 within one of the OTK Kart Group official teams. The CIK-FIA will also offer the top five of the general ranking of the 2017 Academy Trophy free entry to the 2018 CIK-FIA Championship, Cup or Trophy of their choice.

Registration for the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy is carried out by ASNs who will select the Driver(s) to represent their country. In addition to the age criterion to be met, between 12 and 14 years old, the Drivers must not have been ranked in the top 15 of a previous CIK-FIA Junior Championship.

To date, 38 ASNs have already expressed their wish to include at least one representative in the 2017 edition: Austria, Barbados, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Jordan, Japan, Latvia, Morocco, Mozambique, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and United States of America.

The maximum number of entries is 51 and the entries will be closed on 6th March 2017. The interested ASNs should make themselves known to the CIK-FIA as soon as possible.

The rules for the CIK-FIA 2017 Karting Academy Trophy are available at www.cikfia.com. For any information or any questions from a Driver, a competitor or an ASN, please contact the CIK office by email at CIKentry@fia.com.
