This year’s CIK-FIA awards ceremony took place in Vienna (AUT) after the FIA Ceremony, closing a busy week as the World Motor Sport Council and the FIA General Assembly had been held a few days before.

While the World Champions had already been rewarded the day before at the Hofburg Palace, all of the CIK-FIA Champions were honoured on Saturday 3rd December 2016 at the Grand Hotel Wien. The host of the evening, Luca De Donno, President of WSK Promotion, opened the festivities as the Promoter of the CIK-FIA Competitions, in the presence of Shaikh Abdulla Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, the President of the CIK-FIA, and its Vice-President Kees Van De Grint.

On the stage the three 2016 CIK-FIA World Champions, Pedro Hiltbrand (ESP) in OK, Victor Martins (FRA) in OK-Junior and Paolo De Conto (ITA) in KZ, and the Drivers classified 2nd and 3rd in the World Competitions received their trophy to the applause of the public. The European Champions, the winner of the International Super Cup and the top three in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy were also rewarded. Shion Tsujimoto (JPN) was honoured as the Driver supported by the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission.

The Trophy for the Best Event of the Year 2016 was awarded to Kristianstad Kart Klubb for organising the CIK-FIA KZ World Championship, the KZ2 International Super Cup and the final CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy in Sweden. The Bahrain International Circuit received the Trophy of the Exceptional Event of the Year 2016 for organising the CIK-FIA World Championship and World Junior Championship.

The CIK-FIA wished to honour Thom Meylink (NLD) for his outstanding contribution to Karting over many years in the CIK-FIA Commission and the Working Group, as well as a Steward and Superkart Representative, among many other activities.

The guests elected the best photogrpah of the year. The Italian photographer Davide Pastanella of the Wafe Project Agency won the 10th CIK-FIA photo contest.

The dinner was complemented by a thrilling video of the sporting year. The guests received the traditional “Best-Of” published by the CIK-FIA, a superb collector’s book of more than 130 pages in large format, tracing the highlights of the 2016 season by text and image.
