RMCGF 2015 Thursday afternoon, second qualifying heats

Junior Heat 3 A-C
Several drivers, including Dean MacDonald, were out of the race after another crash on the first lap, while others fell behind. Roope Ropanen dominated most of the race, but Florian Venturi cleverly bided his time before attacking on the last lap to win. 3rd place went to Aaron Cameron ahead of Mathias Ramirez-Barrero, who was very fast, and Jack McCarthy.

Junior Heat 4 B-D
The first lap was again peppered with incidents, thoughout the field this time, leapfrogging … Jules Bollier had made a good start in the wake of Scott Symons, but his race ended on the third lap, pushed off by a another competitor. The three-way battle for victory escalated on the last lap. Harrison Thomas finally won ahead of Symons, Dylan Drysdale finishing 3rd from Manuel Sulaiman and Axel Charpentier, while Caio Collet took 6th place. 10th on the penultimate lap, David Beaumann unfortunately fell to 27th position.

 

Senior Heat 3 A-C
The start, for the first time, had a reasonable speed, with a first lap without too many problems. The race was dominated by Edward Brand and Berkay Besler. Pierce Lehane lost his 3rd place in favour of Luc Willemse, followed by Hirotaka Sasaki. Brand outpaced Besler by 0.125”, with Petr Bezel finally in 4th position ahead of Sasaki. Arnaud Sarrazin came back into the top 10.

Senior Heat 4 B-D
After an incident at the second corner, for a change, Rinus Van Kalmthout and Cody Gillis remained in the gravel. Alex Alex quickly gained a gap against Christopher Dreyspring and Sten Piirimaegi ahead of Bruno Borlido. Dreyspring then took the lead trio, Alex responded, and won the race ahead of Piirimaegi and Dreyspring. Tom Bale had a good rise to 5th place, as did Leonard Hoogenboom in 6th place and there was interesting progress from Emmanuel Reviriault in 13th overall.

 

DD2 Masters Heat 3 A-C
Tomokazu Kawase managed to unseat Derek Wang from his leading position to win narrowly in battle ahead of a group led by Luis Schiavo in which Renato Russo finally took 3rd position against Wang and Leonardo Nienkotter. Running 6th for a time, Charly Hipp ended in a good 8th place.

DD2 Masters Heat 4 B-D
The race began with a crash at the start line and continued up to the back of the field with a hook in the fourth corner. The leader since the beginning, Michael Stephen was caught at the end, but managed to keep the lead from Ryan Urban and Antti Ollikainen, Robert Schluenssen finishing 4th and Adam Hunter 5th. Laurent Aubin had retired prematurely.

 

DD2 Heat 3 A-C
Andreas Backman attacked Ferenc Kancsar from the third lap but the Swede took the Hungarian later on. Bradley Liebenberg seized his turn in 2nd place. Backman took over the controls on lap 7, but Kancsar finally imposed ahead of Backman and Liebenberg. Mads Thomsen finished 4th and Henrijs Grube 5th. Rubens Barrichello came back to 13th position.

DD2 Heat 4 B-D
Two incidents still occurred on the first lap, while Lukasz Bartoszuk took over the head against Luka Kamali when the race was stopped by the red flag to allow the ambulance to evacuate a casualty. Kamali took control at the restart and remained in the lead until the finish despite the threat from Bartoszuk. Luke Varley took 3rd position ahead of Pedro Pinto and Sanad Al Rawahi.
