CIK Genk: Stan Pex dominates KZ2 qualifying from Schmitz

With good weather, about 25 ° C, the conditions were excellent for the last qualifying session of the European KZ2 Championship at Genk. In the first session, times continued to drop until the chequered flag, but Stan Pex (Intrepid / TM) and Jorge Pescador (Praga / Parilla) did not leave the top of the timesheet, with Marijn Kremers (BirelART / Parilla) and Nicolas Gonzales (Sodi / TM) in their wake. The best time went to Pex on 51”498 two tenths ahead of Pescador and 3/10 ahead of his other rivals including Thomas Laurent (Tony Kart / Vortex) who finished 5th.

The fastest drivers went out in the very last moments of the second session, especially Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart / Vortex) with best time of 51”787 for 3rd overall, 6 thousandths ahead of Enrico Bernardotto (Maranello / Modena). Sean Babington (Energy / Parilla) was third, followed by Martijn Van Leeuwen (CRG / TM) and Maxim Martynyuk (CRG / Modena), the top six being grouped in less than 7/100.

The third series was fastest with Joel Johansson (Energy / TM) and Alexander Schmitz (Tony Kart / Vortex) in a fight for the top two places and Lorenzo Camplese (Parolin / TM) going ahead at the last moment without dislodging Pex from pole position. Starting after the others, Alessio Piccini (Tony Kart / Vortex) took 4th position in front of Felice Tiene (CRG / Maxter) and Yohan Sousa (Zanardi / TM).

Stan Pex is the poleman in KZ2 from Schmitz, Johansson and Piccini, Pescador ended up 6th, Tiene 7th and Besancenez 8th. Gonzales finished 13th, Laurent 14th.
