CIK Best-of 2014: A perfect victory for Van Der Burgt

A 20-year-old Dutchman, long convinced of the joys of 125cc gearbox, Ryan Van Der Burgt achieved his best result, winning the CIK-FIA International Super Cup for KZ2, after deciding to finish his career in karting. Despite his speed, he hadn’t yet been rewarded as he deserved due to a long series of random misfortunes. At Sarno, everything went well and he was finally able to reach the top step of a major podium..

How did you feel about the win?
– For me, the CIK-FIA International Super Cup, has the same value as the World Championship. The Drivers are very strong and behave like professionals. There’s a very high standard. The Sarno win makes me very happy and will probably change my future, this is the victory that I have waited for for a long time! I would like to continue with Danilo Rossi in 2015.

Did you expect such a result?
-I knew that the equipment was working well. The DR chassis is very effective with the new tyres. It isn’t enough to have the speed, you must also have the results. My retirement in the penultimate heat, while I was leading on the last lap, caused some concern, but it did not last. After 12th in the Qualifying Heats, I managed to win the Prefinal. Then we had to fight throughout the Final to stay ahead of the returning Camplese, but I was more than motivated by the challenge!

Are you still as passionate about karting competition?
– I started at age 7 in Mini, I have competition in my blood. Although last time there was a certain weariness, that was because the results were not coming. I knew I could win, but there was always an obstacle in my way. In the end, I don’t regret persevering. I’ll probably compete with more serenity, but still a lot of passion.
