Victory for Vromant in the Academy final

All of the drivers in the Academy Trophy final chose to put on slicks, which made sense after what we saw in the KZ2 final. However, the grey clouds were back on the horizon at Wackersdorf when the grid girls left the track. One could wonder if some of the competitors understood the principle of the new spoiler mountings: there were already flags out in the first warm-up lap …

The fight was intense from the lights. Berkay Besler took the lead ahead of Kakunoshin Ota, Rinus Van Kalmthout, Richard Verschoor and Alexander Vromant. Lucas Légeret made a good start and was already up to the top 10. Besler was pursued by Van Kalmthout and Ota, Verschoor was not very far off. Andrea Bistrot remained isolated in 6th position. Vromant took 4th place and Van Kalmthout and Ota passed Besler who found himself third. The positions did not stop changing in the wild quintet. Vromant took the lead before the halfway point and began to get away. The fastest lap went to Légeret in 7th place. Van Kalmthout, Besler and Verschoor fought for second place, but a group of four drivers joined in. with 4 laps to go, Besler managed to clear the threat from Verschoor and chased Vromant, 2” in front of him, an lead that melted quickly. But Verschoor took back 2nd place and Vromant moved towards a magnificent victory, especially when one remembers that he was 6th in the repechage! Verschoor finished 2nd, Ota 3rd, Besler 4th, Van Kalmthout 5th, Hesse 6th, Légeret 7th and Bistrot 8th.
