Rotax Grand Finals 2013: Two heats on Thursday afternoon

The sky gradually darkened throughout the afternoon, but the good weather won with a maximum of 18 ° C and no rain so far.

Junior: Kingsley and Harvey

Jeffrey Kingsley (CAN) won again, this time in heat A / C, against Kyle Kirkwood (USA) and Brett Ward (USA). The start was marked by a big crash that decimated the pack. Josh Price (GBR) retired for the second time in the first meters of the race, when he started from the second row.

Then Tom Harvey (GBR) won heat B / D, whose start finally went off well, even though a collision ruined some drivers hopes at the second corner. In second, Blaine Rocha (USA) finished more than a second behind, followed by Shogo Endo (JPN) and Thomas Issa (JAM).

Senior: Hodgson and Talvar

There was a fight in heat A / C between Charlie Eastwood (IRL), Edward Brand (GBR) and Oliver Hodgson (USA). Eastwood was 5th, Carlos Gil (SPA) came back to second position followed by Petr Bezel (CZE), while Hodgson led. Philip Morin (SWE) recovered after a delayed start to the race. Bezel went ahead, but Hodgson took back control. 3rd and 4th went to Zacahry Claman Demelo and Gil. Eastwood finished 8th, Morin 10th, but Brand and Fowlie were 15th and 19th.

In the next heat, B / D, it was mainly between Aavo Talvar (EST), Albert Gil (ESP), Maximilian Weinzierl and Oliver Askew (USA). After several lead changes, Talvar prevailed against Gil and Askew.

DD2 Masters: Rudolph and Hunter

Alan Rudolph (USA) gained a big lead over his rivals early on in heat A / C. Starting 5th, Cristiano Morgado (RSA) flew to second position, but was too far back to deprive Rudolph of a second victory. Mike Jones (USA) finished third to Martin Pierce (IRL), Martin Victorsson (SWE) and Christophe Adams (FRA) in 6th.

Heat B / D didn’t cause great suspense after Michael Dauphin (FRA) retired on the second lap. Adam Hunter (AUS) won the race ahead of Tiago Ribeiro (POR) and Fernando Guzzi (BRA). Derek Wang (USA) was fourth ahead of Marc Berteaux (FRA).

DD2: Babington and Slavin

Heat A / C saw the comeback of Sean Babington (GBR) who has been very unlucky so far. He managed to get ahead of Daniel Formal (USA) and to retain his position during the last lap pressure. Pier-Luc Ouellette (CAN) was also in contention for the win in the top three, but the fight allowed Juodvirsis Simas (LTU) to bridge the gap and grab 3rd place. The first round was fatal to some drivers such as Barrie Pullinger (GBR) and Fritz Leesman (USA). Xen De Ruwe (BEL) suffered back in 10th, although he was 5th on the first lap.

The elimination of Ben Cooper (CAN) on the first lap of heat B / D changed the face of the race. Mika Laiho (FIN) first took control before being replaced by Kazimieras Vasiliauskas (LTU). But Shaun Slavin (GBR) had the necessary resources to overtake Vasiliauskas and Laiho.
