Xen De Ruwe clarifies after our publication Sunday about his non-participation in the final stages of the final round of the Rotax Euro Challenge in Salbris.

« Formula K knew Salbris was my last race with them and they knew before I got confirmation that I was on the entry list.  It is difficult to talk about something you do not know whether it will happen or not.  What happened in the last 2 days is too crazy for words but as there are many rumors in the karting world I would like to clarify what happened.

After Martin Blom stopped with the Formula K Europe racing team last year I have been driving for the FK Racing team supported by the factory.  After the Rotax Euro Challenge in PFi we were considering changing team but in a long telephone conversation we agreed to finish the Rotax Euro Challenge with FK, so Salbris was going to be our last race.

Earlier this week several teams regarding next year approached me.  My dream is to drive KZ so I mentioned this.   On Wednesday late afternoon I got two very good proposals to drive the International Super Cup KZ2 in Varennes in 2 weeks time but the inscription closed by midnight.  As we could not do this ourselves we asked for help to other people and we were going to get confirmation by Thursday noon, which we got.

Unfortunately Thursday morning somebody already called FK to mention that I was on the entry list.  So as I was waiting for confirmation they knew before me. Saturday evening FK told us that they would not give me the frame and engines to drive the pre-finale and finale on Sunday, something that contractually they must do.

You should keep in mind that I was leading the European championship and given the weather forecast for Sunday there was a big likelihood of a good result.

The two bosses in Italy refused to talk to me or my dad.  With the RGMMC organization, the people from the Salbris track and several drivers and parents we tried to find a solution but unfortunately the Formula K factory stuck to this unbelievable decision.  So far it never happened that a team chooses to loose the one option they had this year to win a significant title.

I would like to emphasis that this has nothing to do with the Formula K racing team run by Lorenzo Balzan. He was as surprised as us by this totally irrational decision. I close a dark chapter and look forward to some more challenging racing coming up in the next weeks and months. »
