A beautiful confrontation was expected between Max Verstappen (CRG / TM) and Nicklas Nielsen (Kosmic / Vortex ) for the final of the KF World Championship round at PFI. But outsiders were probably able to join the fight for victory: Ben Hanley (ART GP / TM), Karol Basz (Tony Kart / Vortex) and others.
Verstappen took the lead, Hanley moved into second position, but Nielsen was still in the game in 3rd. The Danish driver attacked Hanley who replied at the bridge. Despite a difficult start, Tom Joyner (Zanardi / TM) advanced to fourth from Andreas Hansen (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Egor Stupenkov (Energy / TM).
Nielsen, slowed by Hanley, again attacked the British driver who defended for a time before falling to sixth position. Lance Stroll (Zanardi / TM) was 7th, Andrea Russo (Tony Kart / Vortex) 8th , Dorian Boccolacci (Energy / TM) 9th and Felice Tiene (CRG / Parilla) 10th. Moineault and Barnicoat gave up.
Verstappen’s lead approached two seconds after the first third of the race. In second position, Nielsen was now followed by Stupenkov and Hanley in 4th ahead of Stroll and Russo. Tiene was seventh and ahead of Boccolacci, Basz and Hiltbrand. Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart / TM) had a great race in 13th position. The intensity of the competition was diluted over the laps. Hanley approached Stupenkov and attacked on the 15th lap.
The suspense was much less than the domination of Max Verstappen who won the first race of the 2013 World Championship in KF with the best lap in the race and 2.8s ahead of Nicklas Nielsen, a valiant second and Ben Hanley the solid third.
