The Japanese drivers maintained their advantage gained in Qualifying, except that the positions were reversed at the end of the heats between Tadasuke Makino and Ukyo Sasahara, one of the favorites. The latter two have won three of the six races on Thursday and Friday at Al Ain in the Rotax World Final.

The Australian Joseph Mawson also impressed with two wins. He will start on Saturday on the second inside row with the Swedish driver Philip Morin at his side. The Canadian Jesse Lazare was also won a heat, but missed another, so he is only 14th. The rapid Jordi Van Moorsel (Netherlands), Jack Barlow and Nathan Harrison (both UK) lost valuable points and will need of pre-final to return to the forefront in the 13-16 year old class.

The French driver Marco De Peretti eventually got used to his Birel chassis to demonstrate competitiveness and a beautiful recovery from 50th to 39th place. For him, everything will depend on the repechage.
