A beautiful Saturday race day is the least we can say in KF3 in Varennes Trophy on Saturday in southern Europe.

Darius Oskoui (Intrepid / TM) preserved the advantage of his pole position in the first heat, A against C, and Esteban Ocon (FA Kart / Vortex) who won while Paolo Besancenez (Sodi / Parilla) overtook  Antonio Fuoco (Top Kart / TM).

Dorian Boccolacci (Birel / BMB) did not take advantage of his pole in heat B / D and was in 14th position on the first lap after being heckled. Valentin Moineault (Sodi / Parilla) led to the finish before being penalized 10” for his start and falling to ninth in the standings. Luana Krattiger (Tony Kart / Vortex) was declared the winner ahead of Pedro Hiltbrand (Kosmic / Vortex) and Stefano Villa Zanotti (Tony Kart / Vortex). Boccolacci came 5th and set by far the fastest lap.

Esteban Ocon won his second heat in C / E, although he didn’t start well. 6th on the first round, he gradually returned to Italy’s Mattia Vita (DR / Parilla), who made a great start and Antonio Fuoco, his most difficult opponent who yielded to the pressure on the last lap. It was a nice 5th place for Benjamin Gerard (Tony Kart / Vortex), and Alex Palou (FA Kart / Vortex) set the fastest time.

The duel between Oskoui and Besancenez finally turned to the advantage of French driver in heat A / D. Moineault broke his rear axle on the first lap and his kart worked less well. Marco Paschini (Tony Kart / Vortex) should have finished third without a penalty and Florian Latorre (Sodi / Parilla) took the position after a great recovery.

Faster and faster in the previous races, Felix Hirsiger (Birel / BMB) did not come out unscathed from the first corner in the heat D / E. Moineault prematurely retired. Palou won ahead of Vita, but the surprise came from the Swedish driver Felix Nilsson (Intrepid / TM), who took third after a good start. Latorre set the fastest lap.

Oskoui didn’t hold back in the next heat, A / B, and Boccolacci found himself 4th at the first corner. He reacted vigorously, attacking two drivers at once over the next lap, before taking the lead on the second corner. Albert Gil and Besancenez crashed and lost places. Alessio Piccini (Tony Kart / Vortex) claimed his best performance of the day by finishing second to Oskoui. The fastest lap went to Simon Tirman (Tony Kart / Vortex).

A big crash disrupted the first lap of the last race of the day, B / E, Hiltbrand was in the lead at the first corner, before Gil, Vita and Boccolacci. He went second, the battle intensified in the quartet and  finally Palou settled it, followed by the driver with the fastest lap, Hiltbrand. Gil and Boccolacci were declared non-compliant and downgraded due to a dual carburetor spacer which is now forbidden, while the total thickness was correct and did not give them any advantage.

Three heats are still to come on KF3 on Sunday morning before the final phases.
