After his first round at the WSK Euro Series 2011 in Sarno, Felix Nilsson provided a brief assessment of his performance: «A good performance in time qualifying is really very important. Afterwards, it is too difficult to recover in the qualifying heats because there are too many impacts, there is a lot of traffic, many drivers do not think twice and just try to overtake, no matter what. As a result, you risk losing your place for a mere nothing».
For the first time on the very fast Sarno circuit (1,699 meter long), Felix was far behind during time qualifying, 24th in his group. He would have needed more training to learn all the subtleties of the Neapolitan track as well as to take advantage of the drafting phenomena. He started from the 13th row on each heat, and was forced to overtake many competitors. On Saturday, things started bad with an impact at the start, then he was pushed and went into a tailspin before he could even cross the line and finally someone climbed over his kart at the end of the straight stretch. But despite all this, he finished 16th.
On Sunday, the rain started to fall: «I did not know how to drive in these conditions. But I learnt rather fast what I had to do and I started to attack. I achieved my best result in the weekend: 10th. I love the rain!» But that was not enough to open the doors of the final phases. What really matters, though, is that this Swedish young driver’s apprenticeship is proceeding at high speed and now he is already training on the track, to be ready for the Trofeo Andrea Margutti in Castelletto.
