At its meeting on 23 June 2010 in Geneva and on proposals of the International Karting Commission Members, the FIA World Motor Sport Council took in particular the following decisions concerning Karting:

2010 CIK-FIA World Karting Championship

Scheduled for 19 September at Zuera (ESP), the 47th edition of the CIK-FIA World Karting Championship will be held with karts of the KF2 category instead of the initially scheduled Super KF karts. The guarantees to have a decent field with the later category are insufficient. More accessible technically and financially, KF2 appears to be the most appropriate alternative.  With this category, a more varied participation will be guaranteed  (thanks to an extension of the makes and teams involved), and it will be more international and much larger. The CIK-FIA World Cup for KF2, which was to be held within the framework of the same meeting, is in fact transformed into the World Championship. In addition to those Drivers who were eligible for the World Cup for KF2, the World Council has approved the inclusion in the eligibility criteria of Drivers meeting the conditions intially scheduled for entering the 2010 World Super KF Championship. Entries will be open from 12 July to 17 August 2010.

The final of the CIK-FIA World Karting Championship will be broadcast live on Eurosport International.

Technical Regulations

Three helmet standards are added to the standards required for any participation in a Karting event entered on the International Sporting Calendar: Snell SA2010, Snell K2010 and FIA 860-2004. The eligibility of helmets complying with the Snell K98 standard will expire on 31/12/2014.

The validity of the twelve models of inlet silencers homologated in 2004 is extended by 3 years and will be valid until 31/12/2012.

CIK-FIA Approval Regulations

From 01/01/2011, the CIK-FIA will proceed to the approval of ignition spark plugs. Approvals will be valid for 3 years and will lead to the drawing up of a technical form. This is to reinforce the application of the Technical Regulations and to prevent the manufacturing of special spark plugs or the transformation of standard spark plugs in order to get extra performance or to bypass the prescriptions concerning the minimum volume of the combustion chamber.
