The rain has ceased, and a light breeze was blowing at Sarno, but the track dried quickly but was very slippery for the start of Race 1 for KZ2. The grid was formed after 2 laps of tyre warming. Luca Tilloca got away first, but the Energy drivers worked as a team and took the lead at the hairpin at the bottom of the track, soon joined by a 3rd teammate Paolo De Conto who took the lead from Marcel Jeleniowski and Yan Pesce. 4th was Massimo Aceto, followed by Simone Brenna and Tilloca. The latter returned to the attack and captured 4th place in front of Simon Solgat and Brenna. Solgat soon took 4th position, followed by Brenna and Tilloca. De Conto was more than 2.5” ahead of Jeleniowski who gained slightly on Pesce. Beitske Visser was running 9th.

On lap 6, Solgat started to threaten the 3rd place Pesce. The sun settled and warmed the track, and the dry lines developed. Solgat, the fastest on the track, took 3rd and then his compatriot Jeleniowski reacted and closed to 1” of the leader who was suddenly less swift. The performance evolved differently depending on the machines and drivers with the drainage on the track. The first 3 werre now grouped within 6 tenths. Brenna overtook Pesce for 4th place.

Lap 11: there was a big fight between the 2 Energys at the front in the windy sections, and De Conto resisted Solgat. Last lap, the Solgat outbraked Jeleniowski at a righthander. De Conto went out wide near the paddock, Solgat took the lead, but immediately Jeleniowski replied and De Conto recovered 2nd place … What a finale!

Victory went to Marcel Jeleniowski, Paolo De Conto was second and Solgat 3rd. Brenna was 4th, Pesce 5th and Tilloca 6th. This was the finish as we saw it on the track, but Solgat was disqualified afterwards, for being 200g under the minimum weight. Brenna moved up to the 3rd step of the podium.
