In Karting, the seasons end in apotheoses and the stakes rise in a crescendo as competitions go by. Such is the case for KF2 Drivers, who will compete for their CIK-FIA World Cup on 18, 19 and 20 September at Alcañiz, Spain.

Selected on the basis of their results recorded over the last months, the Drivers eligible to participate had to shine either in CIK-FIA continental championships (Europe, Asia-Pacific, South America) or in their national or zone championships. On the basis of these preliminary stages, the names of the following favourites emerge: Jordan Chamberlain (Tony-TM), Felipe Tiene (Kosmic-Vortex) and Kevin Munkholm (Birel-Parilla) because earlier in the season they respectively landed the European Championship, the Asia-Pacific Championship and the Viking Trophy.

Having stepped on the podium or achieved poorly-rewarded feats in these reference competitions, others are counting on the Alcañiz event to finish the year on a brilliant note, in particular Matteo Beretta (Tony-Vortex), Jorge Pescador (Tony-Vortex), Matteo Vigano (Birel-Parilla), Ben Cooper (Tony-Vortex), David Da Luz (Zanardi-Parilla), Sébastien Bailly (Tony-Vortex), Joel Johansson (Energy-TM), Nikolaj Moller Madsen (Energy-TM), Loïc Réguillon (Sodi-Parilla), Karol Basz (RK-Parilla), Mans Grenhagen (Energy-TM), Joni Wiman (Maranello-Maxter), Kenny Vermeylen (Tecno-Parilla), Brandon Maisano (LH-Maxter) and Maxim Zimin (FA Kart-Vortex).

In total, 80 Drivers are entered, including six ladies. Eighteen nations will be represented.

While this CIK-FIA World Cup marks the summit of the season for KF2 Drivers, it will also be the first consecration for this magnificent Motorland complex (Ciudad del Motor de Aragon) of Alcañiz. This resolutely modern site dedicated to motor sports is hosting this World Cup on its 1,700 m long Karting track only a few days after the inauguration of its 5,235 m long automobile circuit built according to the standards of Formula 1. In 2008, Alcañiz organised its first international Karting meeting: it was the framework of the “Western” Region Qualifying event for the CIK-FIA European KF2 and KF3 Championships. There, the Drivers discovered a long, broad, hilly and fast track, on which they must come to terms with and use the slipstreaming phenomenon.

KF3 and KZ2 races counting towards the Spanish Championship will complete the bill of this CIK-FIA World Cup for KF2, which will get to the heart of the matter this coming Friday 18 September around 5 p.m. with the first Qualifying Practice session.
