Fore way ahead on the clock

The rain seems to have moved away from the Mariembourg region during the opening timed qualifying for KF1. The track was wet and was drying very slowly. For once, the drivers did not wait until the last moment to go out, as it would seem that the tyres are getting better as they wear. There was no tight group either, the karts were very evenly spaced throughout the 1366m Belgian track.

The British began to mark their territory with Gary Catt, Michael Ryall, Jason Parrott and Mark Litchfield all with times in 1.06. On lap four Davide Fore entered the fray and sapped down a 1’04″938 which stunned the competition. Sauro Cesetti moved into second place, followed by Ramon Kuipers. Parrott then took second place, getting closer to Fore. But he continued to improve, finishing up with 1’04″602! Parrott clung onto second with 1’05″399, ahead of Cesetti in third. Surprisingly Gianni Gazurelli took fourth so fell within the Superpole positions. Fifth was Ramon Kuipers. Catt was seventh, Varutti ninth, Alfano tenth, De Brabander 14th and Iglesias 15th.

In the second session, Anthony Abbasse quickly took the fastest lap, followed in turn by Jack Te Braak, Matt Truelove, Tomas Eidjord and Matias Laine. Arnaud Kozlinski took control again with 1’05″253. Nikolaj Bollingtoft moved back into the top four on the last lap and Abbasse retained second place. Luca Giacomello took third, Bollingtoft fourth and Laine fifth. Armand Convers could do no better than eighth, Te Braak tenth, Guignet 12th and Stevens 14th. This session has been slower than the previous one, perhaps because of less efficient wet tyres on the dryer track. Some drivers complained of different tyre qualities in the same batch…
