The weather was mild to start with at Essa for timed practice. The track still held some traces of the rainy night and the sky was full of heavy clouds but the sun managed to break through.
The KZ2 started proceedings and the man to beat was Thomas Mich with a best time of 48.404 ahead of Norman Nato (Intrepid/TM) who was very quick with 48.450. Enzo Zefirini (Birel/TM), the current championship leader, took third place. Anthony Abbasse (Sodikart/TM) was fourth and Cedric Goudant (Tonykart/TM fifth. Joffrey Demanse, who dominated the European Championship two weeks ago, took eighth place. On his return, Benjamin Bailly only posted 16th.
In KF3, Brandon Maisano (Intrepid/TM) was back in action after his recent successes in the WSK. He posted the best time of 51.774, two tenths ahead of Mathiieu Jaminet (Kosmix/XTR), ahead of Michael Heche (CH, Intrepid/TM) in third, Tanguy Carel (Sodikart/XTR) was fourth, Jonathan Helias (Intrepid/TM) fifth. Guillaume De Ridder was eighth on the still-dry track.
The first KF2 session enjoyed good track conditions. Pole was taken by local driver Paul Fourquemin (Intrepid/Parilla) 50.692 ahead of surprise frontrunner Alban Authie (Sodikart/IAME). Kenny Vermeylen
(BE, Tecno/IAME) seized second ahead of Charles Lacaze (Tonykart/Vortex) and William Benedetti (Kosmic/Vortex). Sebastien Bailly was in sixth, Alexandre Arrue eighth and Julien Deschamps ninth.
The second session was hit by a downpour which made the track difficult, so unfortunately the times were way off those posted in the first session. Robin Frijns (BE, Birel/TM) achieved the fastest lap with 53.033, almost three seconds slower than Paul Fourquemin. Clement Bluy (Sodikart/IAME) took second place in front of Alexandre Paumard (Tonykart/Vortex), Jean-Baptiste Vincent (Kosmic/Vortex) and Mindaugas Daunoravicios (LT, CRG/IAME).
