Decisions of the world motor sport council of the FIA

During its meeting on 24 October 2007 in Paris, the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA took the following decisions regarding Karting :

Safety Recommendations for Leisure Karting
The CIK-FIA has drawn up a list of safety recommendations with regard to leisure Karting for the use of service providers, ASNs (National Sporting Authorities) and/or local civil authorities. These safety recommendations concern infrastructures, leisure karts, users (drivers) and the management of operations.

Sporting Regulations
Entry eligibility criteria for the future CIK-FIA World Cups for KF2 have been extended to drivers who were classifi ed in the top 34 in the previous World Cup and to drivers who were classifi ed in the top 5 (instead of only the top 3) in a national KF2 or ICA championship.

Technical and Homologation Regulations
Further to the introduction of the new Snell-FIA CMH (Child’s Motorsport Helmet) helmet standard studied in accordance with the anthropometry of young and very young drivers, Article 3 of the CIK-FIA Technical Regulations will recommend the use of such helmets as from 2008, and they will be mandatory from 2009 for drivers under 15 years old.

For safety reasons, the following devices will be mandatory as from 2008 :
– a full protection totally covering the chain/sprocket/crown-wheel in all categories without a gearbox;
– mandatory fi tting of a protective pad for the rear brake when it protrudes below the main tubes of the chassis-frame;
– mandatory fi tting of a protection system covering the rotating parts of the ignition on KF engines which have an ignition model with a protruding and exposed rotor.

The validity of Superkart engine approvals has been increased from 3 to 6 years.

2008 CIK-FIA Calendar
The organisation of the 2008 CIK-FIA Panamerican Karting Championship has been granted to Uruguay. This Championship will be held on the El Pinar circuit from 17 to 20 April 2008.

Invitations to Tender
Panta has won the tender to be the single fuel supplier for the 2008 CIK-FIA Championships organised on the European continent, with the exception of the Viking Trophy and of the European Superkart Championship.

International Karting Commission
On proposal of the World Motor Sport Council, the FIA General Assembly has designated the President and the Members of the CIK for the coming year. Mr Luigi Macaluso (I) has been reappointed President of the CIK and the 28 following countries will be represented within the Commission : Argentina, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland (in partnership with Sweden), France, Germany, Great- Britain, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, United States and Venezuela.

The detail of the changed rules and of the new regulations will shortly be available on www.cikfi a.com and in the periodical Bulletin of the CIK-FIA.
