CRG-Maxter: A Winning Combination in Sarno

Three victories in a row in the World Cup for KZ1: an extraordinary result for the CRG Team, as thrice Belgian champion Jonathan Thonon confessed. “It is great to work with such a competent team and to drive this incredibly performing equipment”. On 5 and 6 September, on the Italian track of Naples-Sarno, CRG, Maxter and Thonon became part of karting history after knocking out competition in the final. “It was an incredibly difficult and hard-fought race” Jonathan continued. “And it became a bit more complicated when I was forced to quit a heat. But my equipment was so competitive that I remained confident during the rest of the race”.

 

Indeed, Thonon climbed from 9th to 4th place in pre-final. In the final, he was third after the first lap and made short work of the two leaders. Then, he gained that little advantage he needed to conquer the World Cup for KZ1 a third time. “My CRG chassis proved to be effective from the very beginning and kept improving lap after lap. I improved my times at each lap and in the end, I set the best lap in the final, with 1’03″255”.

 

In addition to Jonathan Thonon’s success, there was a superb 5th place by Arnaud Kozlinski. Davide Forè and Gary Carlton were also very fast, but unlucky in a weekend during which CRG chassis constantly showed top-level performances. The same thing happened in the World Cup for KF3, with the performances by Rumanian Robert Visolu and Finnish Matias Köykkä.

Maxter On the First Step of the Podium

 

KSP_SARNO_4017.jpg10 engines among the finalists of the World Cup for KZ1, 3 drivers in the top 6 and the world title for Jonathan Thonon. Maxter MX has confirmed once again its status of reference point in the 125cc gearbox engine category. “As soon as I have started working on this engine, I have immediately understood its great potential” confirmed Patrick Savard (Tec’Sav), who prepared the winner’s engine.

“Thonon is an experienced driver, but Maxter engines have also allowed less known drivers to show excellent performances” a spokesman of the Italian brand commented. “Young Danish driver Andreas Fasberg (AM chassis) set the third best time in timed qualifiers, American Gary Carlton and Italian Luca Tilloca (CRG chassis) posted the best lap in race during the qualifying heats, while Antonio Piccioni (RK chassis) managed to climb to 6th place just behind Arnaud Kozlinski. We have good reasons to be optimistic about the future”.

After conquering the European KF3 Title in 2008, Maxter hoped for another good result in the World Cup for Juniors (from 13 to 15 years), but failed in the final phase. Joey Elkerbout (Zanardi), winner of one heat, and Robert Visolu (CRG), 4th after qualifiers, would have deserved a better result, considering how fast they were.
