OK-Junior Prefinal: Krutogolov wins on rain tyres

On Saturday morning, the Sarno track was drying out for the OK-Junior Prefinal of the fourth and final round of the WSK Super Master Series under cloudy skies and temperatures of 14°.

Dean Hoogendoorn (KR/Iame) was leading after a first lap punctuated by slips. Lev Krutogolov (Tony Kart/Iame) had jumped to 2nd ahead of Filippo Donazan (KR/Iame) and Remigiusz Samczyk (KR/Iame), with Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame) in 5th place, followed by Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM). Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) was at the back of the pack after a trip through the grass. The rain tyres were even faster than the slicks used by some of the drivers. Krutogolov took the lead from Hoogendoorn on lap 4. By the halfway point, several drivers on slick tyres were lapped and eliminated. The advantage of the rain tyres exceeded six seconds per lap. The rain then made a comeback. Krutogolov, after taking a lap from a dozen or so rivals, won 3.3″ ahead of Hoogendoorn. Donenzan was 3rd, Samczyk 4th and Schaufler 5th, more than a minute behind.

Provisional results pending publication of the final rankings.
