WSK Final Cup: Costoya and Lehtimaki win OK-Junior Prefinals

On Sunday morning, the sun was still shining brightly over South Garda Karting, but the temperature remained cool at no more than 8°C for the OK-Junior Prefinals of the first round of the WSK Final Cup.

Prefinal A: Costoya back in the lead

Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) followed leader Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) at the start, before Elliot Kaczynski (Tony Kart/Vortex) moved up to 2nd on the second lap. Freddie Lloyd (LN/TM) then moved up to 3rd, while Jack Illife (Parolin/TM) had lost ground in 5th position. Kaczynski took the lead on lap 5. Rocco Coronel (KR/Iame) returned to the top five. Lloyd took 1st place, closely followed by Kaczynski and van Langendonck. Thomas Quincé (Tony Kart/Vortex) retired. Kit Belofsky (Sodi/TM) moved up 12 places to 13th. Kaczynski was back in the lead ahead of Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame) and Lloyd. Costoya moved up to 3rd ahead of van Langendonck, then 2nd ahead of Schaufler in a very tight trio. Costoya moved into 1st position with three laps to go and took the win a second ahead of Schaufler, followed by Kaczynski in 3rd, Matt Corbi (KR/Iame) in 4th and van Langendonck in 5th ahead of Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM). Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) finished 19th.

Prefinal B: victory for Lehtimaki

Sebastian Lehtimaki (Tony Kart/Vortex) got off to a perfect start from 1st place, with Filippo Sala (LN/TM) immediately in his wake, followed by Ludovico Busso (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Endo Arata (Tony Kart/Vortex). Xiao Yu Sun (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 5th, but Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) then came back into the top five ahead of David Cosma Cristofor (KR/Iame). At the front, Lehtimaki controlled Sala, Busso was distanced in 3rd position before being overtaken by Martinese. Lehtimaki increased his lead towards the finish to win the race 3.4″ ahead of Sala, who had resisted Martinese’s comeback who was then penalized 9th for his spoiler. Cosma Cristofor finished 3rd, well ahead of Sun and Arata.
