Slater fastest in KZ2 Qualifying at Sarno


The temperature was already over 30° early this afternoon at Sarno for Qualifying Practice for the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2, which brought together 72 drivers in four sessions of sox minutes each, with only the last four minutes used.

Session 1: Rehm – 53”623
The young German Maxim Rehm (Birel ART/TM) of the Leclerc by Lennox Racing team set the fastest time in the session – 53”623 – on his second flying lap. Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) followed him in 2nd place, 64 thousandths behind, while Artem Severiukhin (Birel ART/TM) was 3rd, less than a tenth behind. In 4th place, Andrea Dalé (CRG/TM) was 3 tenths behind Alessio Piccini (Birel ART/TM). Gabin Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) finished 7th and Tim Locati (Sodi/TM) 10th. Matheus Morgatto (Birel ART/TM) was fast in free practice, and finished 9th.

Session 2: Tonteri – 53”698
Finland’s Paavo Tonteri (CRG/TM) was fastest in the session in 53”698 on his third run, ahead of Tim Gerhards (Sodi/TM), 0.142” further back. Genis Civico took 3rd place at 0.176” ahead of Tigran Bunatyan (Energy/TM) and Samuel Luyet (Tony Kart/Vortex). Jorge Pescador (Kali’Kart/TM) finished in 8th place, Vincent Wanègue (Sodi/TM) was 12th, followed by Angelo Lombardo (Birel ART/TM).

Session 3: Slater – 53”574
Yevan David (Sodi/TM) was leading on the second lap ahead of Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM), but Britain’s Freddie Slater (Birel ART/TM) improved on the third lap to take provisional pole in 53”574, 55 thousandths ahead of Stolcermanis. David remained 3rd at 75 thousandths. Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM) finished 4th, 2.5 tenths behind and Nikolas Roos (CRG/TM) 5th. Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM) was 6th, Matteo Spirgel (Sodi/TM) and Thomas Imbourg (Sodi/TM) followed in 7th and 8th positions.

Session 4: Orlov – 53”803
Alex Powell (KR/Iame) was already in the lead on the first lap. He improved to 53’821 on his second lap, but Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM) was finally the fastest in 53’803, 18 thousandths quicker than Powell. Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame) finished 3rd at 39 thousandths, followed by Luka Sammalisto (KR/TM) and Brandon Nilsson (CRG/TM).
