OK-Junior Super Heat 1: Wherrell beats Ramaekers

The sun was out in Valencia on Sunday morning for the OK-Junior Super Heats of the first round of the Champions of the Future Euro Series 2023.

Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame) held the lead when the lights went out, while Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) took 2nd place ahead of Kirill Dzitiev (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Eliott Kaczynski (Tony Kart/Vortex). Scott Kin Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex) retired after an incident that also delayed Taym Saleh (KR/Iame). Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM) was back in 5th position. On the fourth lap, Wherrell passed Ramaekers for the lead. In 3rd place Kaczynski fought with Dzitiev and was two seconds behind the leading duo. Jack Iliffe (Parolin/TM) was next in the top five ahead of team-mate Drummond and Dries van Langendonck (Energy/TM) in 7th. Wherrell increased his lead with Ramaekers by setting fastest laps. Wherrell won 1,3” ahead of Ramaekers, who nevertheless remained in the lead of the provisional classification. Kaczynski finished 3rd by 2,1”, 6 tenths ahead of Dzitiev. Iliffe was 5th, Drummond 6th and Van Langendonck 7th and Scott Marsh (Sodi/TM) 8th. Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) had a solid race, finishing 21st and moving up nine places.
