Junior Karting: fantastic battles in Varennes

The young riders of the French Junior Championship performed superbly on the very demanding track of Varennes-sur-Allier with a record number of overtakes. Arthur Dorison was very strong in the final and increased his lead in the standings.

The FFSA Academy was delighted with the ability of the apprentice champions to manage the particularities of the fast Auvergne circuit: “The races were breathtaking and with very few incidents throughout the weekend,” confided Christophe Lollier, the National Technical Director. “Almost all the drivers showed a good maturity to establish and follow their own strategy. In terms of overtaking, it was an excellent training exercise. The fairness of the engines, which is a priority for us, contributed to the success of the event. Member of the FFSA Espoir Karting Team Arthur Dorison did not have an easy time, but he was able to make the difference during the final to score important points in the standings“.

The 4th round of the French Junior Karting Championship run by the FFSA Academy benefited from ideal conditions for the competition at Varennes-sur-Allier as part of the 2nd meeting of the famous Oscar Petit Trophy. The sky remained clear throughout the meeting with pleasant temperatures far from being too high for the season.

Second pole position for Tani from Finland
Kimi Tani, who had already set the best time in qualifying at La Hague, did it again in Varennes with a time of 55”991, more than a tenth ahead of his pursuers, Enzo Perrot-Thommerot and Lisa Billard.

Rahali takes over in the heats
The serious stuff started with the qualifying heats. Tani won the first heat, which was already very animated, by passing Perrot-Thommerot in the last lap. Adam Rahali regained 3 places to finish 3rd ahead of Arthur Dorison and Bastian Leblais, who moved up 9 positions.
Rahali won the second heat against Dorison and Leblais, then Tani and Billard.
Rahali and Tani would share the 1st row of the pre-final ahead of Dorison and Leblais with Perrot-Thommerot in 5th position.

Billard wins the prefinal
The prefinal was a tough battle between many drivers. Dorison had spent the most laps in the lead. But Rahali tried to attack in the last lap and did not reach the finish. Dorison was delayed and Billard took advantage of the confusion to take the victory in front of Perrot-Thommerot, Tani finished 4th and Kimi Mérieux 5th.

Dorison at the finish
In the light of previous experience, Dorison was determined not to be caught out in the final. He dealt with the Perrot-Thommerot threat at the start of the race and then controlled his rival until the chequered flag. Leblais progressed by 10 positions to enter the top 3 ahead of Billard and Matthéo Dauvergne (+ 4 pl). Mérieux had to abandon after a slow puncture after having fought in the top 4. Dorison obtained a nice victory and increased his score for the title conquest that will be completed in Anneville at the beginning of July.
