Magnificent OK victory for Severiukhin

There was a spring temperature of 17° in Portimao on Sunday afternoon for the OK Final of the first meeting of the Champions of the Future 2022 with Artem Severiukhin (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Matheus Morgatto (KR/Iame) on the first row followed by Tomas Stolcermanis (Energy/TM) and Ean Eyckmans (Tony Kart/Vortex).

From the outside line, Morgatto lost “only” two places at the start. Severiukhin had already taken the lead with a significant gap to Stolcermanis and Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart/Vortex). Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM) got off to a good start in P7 with a gain of five places, while Malo Bolliet (KR/Iame) followed in 11th place ahead of Alex Powell (KR/Iame). Severiukhin broke away with a 1,5” advantage on the fifth lap. His team-mate Oscar Pedersen (Tony Kart/Vortex) was provisionally in the top three and Freddie Slater (LN/Vortex) was 8th ahead of Morgatto. Turney was 3rd, a second behind Stolcermanis at the halfway point, David Walther (Tony Kart/Vortex) 4th ahead of Coluccio and Deligny who then swapped positions. Severiukhin was more than 3” behind when Turney attacked Stolcermanis for 2nd position. Walther retired after a wheel contact with Stolcermanis. Severiukhin won the race with a 4,7″ advantage, but he had to ease off in the last laps. Turney was 2nd (+6 pl), but Deligny in 3rd by 2,7” (+9 pl) was penalised by 5” down to 8th position, so Stolcermanis recovered the 3rd place in front of Coluccio and Slater took 5th position. Bolliet secured a superb 9th place ahead of Tuukka Taponen. Arthur Rogeon (KR/Iame) did not finish.
