Bogdan takes the honours after another podium

The Trofeo di Primavera was one of the young driver Bodgan Cosma Cristofor’s objectives in 2022. Winner of the first race and on the third step of the podium in the second, he reached his goal by brilliantly winning the title in the 60 Mini category against formidable opposition. At the South Garda Karting circuit in Lonato, the young Romanian hopeful showed great confidence in himself, as well as a strong competitiveness with the Gulstar Racing team, a few days before his 11th birthday.

With 46 entries in the first race and no less than 50 in the following event two weeks later on 19th and 20th March, the Trofeo di Primavera remains a great classic of the Italian karting calendar. These two meetings organised on the Lonato circuit, one of the best known in Europe, once again attracted numerous foreign drivers, giving a definite international feel to this prestigious competition.

A controlled Final

Bodgan Cosma Cristofor, who set the 4th fastest time, showed his comfort in the pack by finishing his two Qualifying Heats in 2nd position. In the Final, however, the Romanian driver realised that the place on the outside of the front row is not always the most favourable. “At the start, I couldn’t get back to the inside as I would have liked, in order to catch the wheel of the pole position driver and put him under pressure from the start,” commented Bogdan. “I was only 6th at the first corner, but I quickly went on the attack. I managed to pass three drivers quickly. However, just afterwards, an incident led to a ‘slow’ procedure, which forced us to run under a yellow flag for three laps, with no possibility of gaining further places.”

When the race director brought out the green flag, meaning that the track was safe again, a superb duel for the podium began, allowing the leader to take a slight lead. Bodgan Cosma Cristofor, who is very fast in his KR-IAME, knew that he had no room for error if he wanted to win the overall classification of the Trofeo di Primavera. Torn between his desire to take the win and to secure the title, he finally managed to keep his 3rd place, despite the pressure from his rivals.

His brother David Cosma Cristofor, who competed in the Junior category, continued to progress in his new category. Unfortunately, an incident in the first race ruined his chances of doing well. The two drivers will discover a new environment from 25th to 27th March by participating in an IAME Series Italy event, again in Lonato.
