KZ2: Puhakka concludes a perfect weekend on the top step

The last race of this Winter Series weekend in Franciacorta, the KZ2 Final benefited from pleasant sunny conditions but a track that was still a little cool. Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Paolo Ippolito (KR/Iame) shared the first row of the starting grid ahead of David Liwinski (Birel ART/TM) and Jean Luyet (Tony Kart/Vortex).

Puhakka and Ippolito were leading in the first lap while Giuseppe Palomba (Birel ART/TM) was in 3rd place ahead of Liwinski and Luyet. The first four drivers stayed together without any attempt during several laps. Palomba launched the first attack on lap 5, but without success. He managed to take 2nd position on lap 6, followed by Liwinski. Meanwhile Puhakka had built up a lead of 9 tenths. Laurens van Hoepen (Birel ART/TM) had joined the group in 6th place with Tom Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) in his wake, Adrien Renaudin (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 8th a few lengths behind. With 2nd place in his sights, Liwinski didn’t let up on the pressure on Palomba. The situation did not change much in the leading trio with performances extremely close as the laps went by. Puhakka remained in the lead with about a second of advantage, Palomba and Liwinski not leaving each other by more than 2 tenths. Puhakka dropped a few hundredths in the run-up to the finish line, but won easily 6 tenths ahead of Palomba and Liwinski. Van Hoepen and Ippolito completed the top five, Renaudin was 6th ahead of Jean Luyet and Leuillet.
