A high performance event
David Cosma-Cristofor was once again one of the main players in the 60 Mini class, which gathered no less than 108 drivers on the South Garda Karting of Lonato from 9th to 13th February 2022, during the second round of the WSK Super Master Series. The young Romanian continues to show his potential in this high level international competition. In Italy, another top 10 rewarded his speed and fighting spirit.
40 nationalities were represented in Lonato and David Cosma-Cristofor was keen to make the Romanian colours shine once again with the Gulstar Racing team, in which his younger brother Bogdan also races. A few days after his 13th birthday, David was confident after his excellent Free Practice. However, Timed Qualifying forced him to settle for 18th position. Only eight drivers lapped faster than him, but the draw placed the Romanian in a group with many favourites. It must be said that the standard is very high in 60 Mini, with gaps of a thousandth!
Top performances
David Cosma-Cristofor then needed to work hard to move up the rankings in a pack where strategy counts as much as competitiveness. Thanks to successive finishes of 3rd, 7th, 10th, 6th and 10th, together with a fastest lap in the race, he took advantage of this consistency to move up to 14th, before improving his position further thanks to a perfectly controlled Prefinal with an excellent start.
13th on the starting grid of the Final, David Cosma-Cristofor had only one objective: to progress further in the hierarchy! The race would prove to be very competitive, with drivers all looking for the best possible result. The end of the race was particularly intense for the Romanian, with several judicious overtaking moves allowing him to enter the coveted top 10.
The result: a comeback to 9th position, a 5th fastest lap in the Final and more points in the WSK Super Master Series among the best young hopefuls in the world. The mild weather in northern Italy – cool mornings but plenty of sunshine during the weekend – also allowed David Cosma-Cristofor and his team to gather valuable technical information for the rest of the season, which promises to be exciting.
