David Cosma-Cristofor aims for victory in 2022

David Cosma-Cristofor’s international sports season started in Italy on the South Garda Karting circuit in Lonato. After winning several races during the previous season, the Romanian driver again fought at the front throughout the weekend. Winner of three Qualifying Heats in the 60 Mini class, he was aiming for victory, before experiencing a technical problem in the Prefinal. His brilliant comeback to the top 10 of the Final with the fastest lap in the race mitigated his disappointment and proved that this talented driver will be a force to be reckoned with in 2022.

David Cosma-Cristofor, age 12, is continuing his incredible rise to prominence! In 2021, the Romanian driver finished 2nd in the 32nd edition of the Trofeo Andrea Margutti – one of the greatest Italian classics – and then repeated this performance in the European series of the prestigious IAME factory cup. At the end of the season, David won two international events in succession: the WSK Open Cup and the WSK Final Cup, again in 60 Mini. “It was a very good memory,” confirms the Gulstar Racing driver. “My goal is clearly to win again in 2022 and as often as possible.

Three wins in the Qualifying Heats

The first international event of the season, the WSK Champions Cup, could have allowed David Cosma-Cristofor to reach the top step of the podium again, as he tells it with much maturity despite his young age… “As early as the Free Practice sessions, I knew that I had the potential to achieve a great performance. With more than 90 drivers entered in 60 Mini, the objective was to start on one of the front two rows and that’s what I did by setting the 10th time in Timed Practice. The Qualifying Heats allowed me to get back to 3rd position thanks to three wins and a fastest lap in the race.

A top 10, expecting better…

Unfortunately, an engine problem forced David to retire during the Prefinal, with the result that he plunged to 16th position on the starting grid for the Final. Although David did not manage to gain any places during the first lap, thereafter he showed his speed and fighting spirit. With another fastest lap in his pocket, he overtook numerous times and managed to cross the finish line in 10th position. There is no doubt that the young Romanian could have gained precious places with a few more laps. “It’s positive to see that I have the performance to aim for victory. I would like to thank the Gulstar Racing team for the work they have done, as my KR-IAME kart performed very well in Lonato. On Sunday 30th January, I hope to return to the podium in the first of the four events of the WSK Super Master Series.”

The season has only just begun…
