Campillos: Walther in pole position for the Junior Final

Still wet from the morning rains, the Campillos track was gradually drying out for the final Qualifying Heats of the World Championship. The temperature rose to around 20°C and slick tyres were used, but some drivers were cautious with rain tyres.

E-F: Egozi crashes, Eyckmans wins
Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM) proved from the first corner that the track was still slippery and went straight on. James Egozi (Tony Kart/Vortex) crashed out in 27th position and Alex Powell (KR/Iame) lost 13 places. Ean Eyckmans (Kosmic/Vortex) won the race with a 1,9″ lead over Luka Sammalisto (KR/Iame), with Keanu Al Azhari (Tony Kart/Vortex) 3rd and Jimmy Helias (Tony Kart/Vortex) 4th ahead of Jonathan Weywadt (Tony Kart/Vortex). Arthur Poulain (Kosmic/Vortex) was 6th, Fionn Maclaughlin (Birel ART/TM) 7th + 14 pl., and Victor Bernier (KR/Iame) 9th. Powell finished 10th, ahead of Heitor Dall’agnol (Praga/Iame) + 18 pl., Karel Schulz (KR/Iame) 15th, Clément Outran (KR/Iame) 16th, Matveev 18th, Egozi 20th, Deligny 24th.

C-D: Stolcermanis wins
Miguel Costa (KR/Iame) and then Artemii Troitskii (Tony Kart/TM) went off the track at the first turn. Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM) escaped in the lead 5” ahead of Jens Treuer (Tony Kart/Vortex) in the third lap, when rain started to fall slightly. Stolcermanis won 6,3” ahead of Maksimilian Popov (Tony Kart/Vortex). Edgar Anpilogov (Kosmic/Vortex) finished 3rd followed by Schu Dozono (Energy/TM) +19 pl. Guillaume Bouzar (Parolin/TM) was 15th, but Matias Orjuela (Parolin/TM) lost a lot of ground when he fell to 23rd.

A-B:
The rain seemed to have gone away for the last Junior race. After two false starts, the race finally started. David Walther (Tony Kart/Vortex) was leading ahead of Freddie Slater (Kosmic/Vortex) who had managed to get back into the race after an average start. The British driver came back very strongly on the Dane. Slater took 1st place on the third lap, but immediately dropped back to 3rd behind Kean Nakamura Berta (Exprit/TM). Walther won by a small margin over Nakmura who was penalised to 6th. Slater recovered 2nd place after his small mistake, followed by René Lammers (Parolin/TM), Maxim Rehm (Kosmic/Vortex) and Marcus Saeter (Tony Kart/Vortex). Arthur Dorison (Tony Kart/Vortex) was penalised and finished 19th. Jules Caranta (KR/Iame) and Jules Roussel Champigny (Sodi/TM) did not reach the finish.

Walther and Stolcermanis shared the front row for the Final ahead of Saeter and Al Azhari. Egozi was 5th, Powell 8th, and Slater 13th. Helias was first of the French in 16th, not bad for a driver who only started in Junior during the season. Deligny started 20th, Dorison 23rd and Poulain 26th.
