Two national championships with wide international participation preceded the final round of the European Championship, which was to be held on July 20th and 21st at Le Mans (FRA). Ugo Ugochukwu was on the podium of the French preparatory race as well as that of the French Cup for OK Junior, while a week later, Harry Thompson took a double victory in the DKM at Kerpen and Christian scored two 2nd places in OK-Junior.
A French Cup to prepare for Europe
Two weeks before the big European event, the OK-Junior French Cup gathered a large number of Junior drivers for its 2nd event on the Le Mans circuit. Thomas Ten Brinke was quick at the start of the meeting before encountering some difficulties in the Finals.
Martinius Stenshorne moved up from 21st to 12th and finished in the top 10 overall. Although he qualified in 17th, Ugo Ugocchukwu rose to 4th place in the Prefinal and continued his effort to reach 2nd in the Final, which gave him 3rd in the French Cup among the 53 participants.
Leading performances in Kerpen
The RFM team immediately set sail for Germany for the 3rd meeting of the DKM in Kerpen in mid-July. The weather was changeable and sometimes very humid over the 1107 m of the Erftlandring. Harry Thompson had a great event starting with his 3rd in Qualifying. He then took two 2nd places during the heats. On Sunday Harry took the lead and posted two consecutive wins in both finals and moved up to 4th place in the Championship.
Christian Ho was not to be outdone in the OK-Junior category as he was recovering quickly from a modest 17th in Qualifying by winning his second heat. He then climbed on the second step of the podium of the two Sunday races and was therefore 3rd in the provisional ranking.
The RFM team is now entering the closing phase of the FIA ??Karting European Championship – OK and Junior which will take place from 19th to 21st July at Le Mans. Ten Brinke is 2nd in the Junior standings and Ugochukwu is a strong outsider.
