Sporting fairness, ideal weather and concentrated talent were on offer at the 2019 Winfield Volant, ending with the designation of four finalists, instead of the three initially planned, because of the extremely high standard of this new vintage and the difficulty in deciding between the young hopefuls.

On Monday afternoon, Callum Bradshaw of Britain, Nicky Hays of the United States, and Hadrien David and Jules Mettetal of France competed in four sessions, with different cars on each attempt. All had at their disposal a new set of tyres that they had to use to the maximum, while managing their wear.

It is probably on this last point that Bradshaw lost his chances of victory. Jules Mettetal set the absolute record for the event in the first session, more than seven tenths ahead of his opponents. He pressed the point in the second, but with a smaller gap. Hays then gave his all to show himself the fastest in the third run.

Jules Mettetal did not crack in the fourth session, giving himself another new fastest time. Hadrien David was in 2nd position ahead of Nicky Hays.

With the results of all these times, but also of all the evaluations carried out since the first day, the jury of the Volant deliberated to finalise its choice and announce the winner. To be continued…
