2018 FIA Karting Best-Of: Swedish disappointment for Navalon Boya

Winner of the 2018 FIA Karting Academy Trophy, the Spaniard Jose Maria Navalon Boya was invited to participate in the FIA ??Karting World Championship – Junior by OTK Kart Group, the official supplier of the Exprit chassis and Vortex engines for the Academy Trophy. He joined the Kosmic Racing Department and took the wheel of an official Kosmic / Vortex at the Kristianstad Competition (SWE) from 20th to 23rd September under his nickname Mari Boya.

Well integrated with the team thanks to his strong motivation, Jose Maria took advantage of his great opportunity to gain maximum experience. Although the Free Practices went pretty well, the management of tyres and traffic during the Qualifying Practice did not leave him room for error. 15th fastest time in his group, he was 83rd overall. The Qualifying Heats looked difficult in the pack. Mari made several significant gains, moving up to 17 places in a single Heat. Unfortunately his score was weighed down by two retirements and he could not qualify for the Final.

“In the moment, it was a great disappointment,” said the Spanish Driver. “I felt comfortable in the Kosmic team and the equipment was excellent. I was able to show my speed and my ability to move up in the Heats, but the handicap from Qualifying was hard to overcome. I knew that by missing the finish of two heats, it would not be possible. Afterwards, I remembered the highlight of this season: winning the FIA ??Karting Academy Trophy gives me great satisfaction and participating in a World Championship with a big team like Kosmic is still a chance that isn’t given to everyone!”
